Police officer raped by David Carrick says Met chief must resign
The Met paid compensation without admitting liability after Linda Williams said the force failed to protect her from serial abuser David Carrick.
Det Con Linda Williams, a Met Police officer for 27 years, has settled her civil case against the Met after being raped by David Carrick in 2004, with the force paying compensation without accepting liability.
During the four-year legal battle, the Met argued her psychological harm was "not such as to significantly impact her on a day-to-day basis," a process Linda says felt "like being raped all over again."
Her PTSD is "90% down to the Met Police, 10% to Carrick," she says, reflecting findings from Baroness Casey describing the Met as a "boys' club" that institutionally failed women.
Linda stated, "We can turn it around, but I don't think Mark Rowley can turn it around," and says she would not report rape to the Met today due to lack of trust.
The Met told the BBC it "tried to reduce further distress" and aimed to deal with claims compassionately, though Linda notes support from higher management remains absent despite colleagues' fantastic efforts.
