The candidates for the 2026 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Expression were presented in the European Parliament today, and they include a Palestinian doctor, the anti-war movement in Israel and the president of El Salvador.

Dr. Husam Abu Safiyya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza, who has been detained by Israel since December 2024, has been nominated for the AP's Sakharov Prize. The nomination was put forward by the Green and Left groups; the winner will be announced on October 22nd.
