Details Announced of Next Week's Public Sector Strike

More than 300,000 workers are set to join rallies in eight locations after talks on a new pay deal stalled, unions said.

  • Public sector unions confirmed a second 24-hour strike for Thursday, November 12, disrupting schools and hospitals nationwide. The action follows the collapse of pay negotiations last Friday.
  • Unions rejected a Government offer of 7.75% pay increases over two and a half years, claiming it fails to protect against inflation. General Secretary Kevin Callinan stated unions seek a deal exceeding the 2024 agreement worth 9 per cent.
  • Unlike the previous strike, workers will gather at eight locations between 12pm and 2pm to maximize impact without widespread picketing. Demonstrations planned for Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Waterford, Sligo, Letterkenny and Tullamore involve more than 300,000 workers.
  • The strike coincides with the European Political Community summit in Dublin, bringing around 50 European leaders to the capital during Ireland's EU presidency. Extensive traffic restrictions will complicate logistics for both the event and demonstrations.
  • General Secretary Kevin Callinan warned unions may escalate work-to-rule measures or deploy strike funds to rotate rolling strikes across sectors if negotiations remain deadlocked. Unions remain committed to securing a credible pay deal.
