Desert Financial Foundation Awards More than $200K in Scholarships to Arizona Students
The foundation’s annual program includes Community Service, Adult Learners and Passion to Help awards, with one scholarship raised to $5,000 this year.
On Monday, the Desert Financial Foundation announced it awarded $212,000 in scholarships to 66 Arizona students this year, supporting high school seniors and adult learners pursuing higher education.
Founded in 2015, the Desert Financial Foundation is a 501 nonprofit that builds on the Desert Financial Credit Union's 1939 origins as a teacher-founded institution committed to education.
Thirty Community Service Scholarships and 30 Adult Learners Scholarships provide $3,000 each to recipients, while the program also awards six Passion to Help Scholarships, including one enhanced $5,000 award.
Board chair Jeff Meshey of the Desert Financial Foundation hosted a celebration on May 6 at Chateau Luxe in Phoenix, stating, "Education has the power to change lives, families and entire communities."
Recipient Elizabeth Hart volunteered over 600 hours to pursue a medical career, while Alireza Rahimi conducts doctoral research at Arizona State University and Navya Balaji received a $5,000 scholarship.
