- On Friday, a Colorado family filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California on behalf of a Jane Doe plaintiff and her unnamed parent, alleging grooming and sexual exploitation on Roblox and Instagram.
- The complaint says a predator first contacted the teen on Roblox, sending sexually explicit messages and simulating acts before coercing her to create an Instagram account where messaging continued.
- Enrolled in supervised Roblox classes, the teen nonetheless found a workaround to play outside monitored sessions; Roblox spokesperson Stefanie Notaney said the platform uses 24/7 human moderation and partners with law enforcement and child safety organizations.
- Soon after the exploitation, the complaint says the teen ran away, was hospitalized multiple times and attempted suicide, highlighting severe psychological harm alleged in the lawsuit.
- The complaint accuses both Roblox and Meta of misleading safety claims, alleging Roblox ran a `deceptive campaign` despite countless police reports and flawed parental controls.
