Democrats’ faith in election results is falling but still exceeds Republicans’, AP-NORC poll finds
Democratic voters’ trust in accurate vote counts fell to 55% as most say presidential interference is a major problem, according to AP-NORC.
Registered Democratic voters have lost faith in U.S. election results, with confidence in accurate vote counting dropping from 75% in 2022 to 55% this year, according to a new AP-NORC poll conducted Oct. 8-12.
About 9 in 10 Democratic voters view the president attempting to influence election outcomes as "a major problem," a concern that intensified since President Donald Trump returned to the White House last year.
Republican confidence in election results has risen slightly since 2022, though GOP voters remain less likely to trust the electoral process than Democrats, the survey found.
Some voters cited escalating threats from Trump regarding potential election involvement, while critics fear voter intimidation following a Department of Justice plan to deploy 1,000 monitors to polling locations.
With the Nov. 3 elections approaching, Trump has signaled he wants federal prosecutors to monitor for fraud, suggesting he may pursue legal challenges if vote counts do not go his way.
