Political tensions are escalating in the Democratic Republic of Congo as major opposition parties form a new coalition against a possible constitutional revision proposed by the government of Félix Tshisekedi.
Refusing to postpone the elections as much as a revision of the Constitution, the opponents of the head of state chose to join forces in a new coalition, but without mentioning former president Joseph Kabila.
On 6 May 2026, during a press conference, President Félix Tshisekedi opened the door to a possible third term following a constitutional referendum.
