Ex-Bureaucrat Ashish Joshi Detained, Questioned by Delhi Police for 8 Hours
Police said Joshi was questioned for nearly nine hours over posts on X and was not arrested.
- On Wednesday morning, Delhi Police Special Cell officers detained former bureaucrat Ashish Joshi from Nehru Park. The 1992-batch officer was taken to the New Friends Colony office for questioning regarding his "online activity" before his evening release.
- Sources confirmed that the Special Cell registered a case against Joshi two days ago under Section 192 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita , which pertains to "wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot."
- Joshi's recent social media posts regarding an alleged "massive showdown" between Home Minister Amit Shah and Home Secretary Govind Mohan preceded the questioning. Previously, he faced suspension in 2019 after flagging "incendiary" posts by AAP MLA Kapil Mishra.
- Former Congress MLA Sandeep Dikshit raised alarms after Joshi was "taken away" without notice. Following a 12-hour detention, Joshi confirmed via social media that the Special Cell dropped him home, though officials provided no details regarding the case.
- While police sources confirmed Joshi's questioning by the Counter Intelligence unit, they stated no arrest was made. The incident highlights standard procedures for questioning former government officials as the investigation into his social media activity remains pending.
