Delhi High Court stays JNU order dismissing professor and Congress MP A Bimol Akoijam from services
The court issued notice on Akoijam’s petition after JNU dismissed him over sexual harassment complaints from at least 11 female students.
On Monday, the Delhi High Court stayed JNU's decision to terminate Congress MP and former professor Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, issuing notice to the university challenging the dismissal order.
JNU dismissed Professor Akoijam in October following sexual harassment complaints from at least 11 female students, who alleged he invited them to his residence and made inappropriate remarks.
Delhi Police registered an FIR against the Inner Manipur Congress MP at Vasant Kunj North police station on October 12, following an investigation by the university's Internal Committee.
Denying all allegations, Professor Akoijam described the proceedings as a "witch hunt" and has approached the court seeking anticipatory bail in the case.
The Delhi High Court listed the matter for hearing in January 2027, while proceedings are scheduled for Tuesday with Special Judge Dig Vinay Singh expected to hear the case.
The Delhi High Court has granted an interim stay on the dismissal of JNU professor and Congress MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, who was accused of sexual harassment by 11 female students earlier this year.
