Delays of up to Two Hours on Major Motorway After Multiple Vehicle Crash
National Highways said all lanes reopened after the crash, with delays easing to 20 minutes and no life-threatening injuries reported.
A multi-vehicle crash on the M42 southbound near Junction 1 for Bromsgrove on Wednesday, October 21, forced the motorway to close in both directions as emergency services responded to the collision.
Emergency services rushed to the scene following the collision, which forced crews to work clearing debris and securing the area while the motorway remained closed.
According to National Highways, the incident caused severe congestion with delays reaching up to two hours and five miles of traffic queuing on the approach to the site.
West Mercia Police confirmed officers attended the scene, stating, "We don't believe there to be any life-threatening injuries at this stage," while West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed no one required treatment.
Residual delays have eased to around 20 minutes, although lane three of the southbound carriageway remains closed for emergency barrier repairs by National Highways.
