Deer hunters can pick up their rifles in southern Minnesota
Deer hunters in southern Minnesota can now use rifles instead of shotguns in the upcoming firearms deer season.
State Senator Steve Drazkowski stated that the exclusion of rifles dates back to 1942 due to concerns over deer overpopulation and chronic wasting disease.
Drazkowski referenced a study from the Pennsylvania General Assembly regarding firearm safety in hunting.
Drazkowski noted that Minnesota is one of the last states to maintain a 'shotgun-only' rule for deer hunting, which has now been repealed.
