The number of people killed in the State custody of El Salvador's prisons has reached at least 547 victims, as reported by the non-governmental organization Humanitarian Legal Relief (SJH), alerting to a serious human rights crisis resulting from the emergency regime implemented since March 2022.
This allegation is in addition to that of a group of international jurists who, last March, also accused the Bukele government of serious human rights violations, such as torture and disappearances, which could represent crimes against humanity.
