Death Toll Rises to 50 in Russian Attack on Aid Distribution ‌Point in Ukraine

Rescuers kept searching the rubble as officials said 53 people were dead and dozens more were still missing after the Nov. 2 attack.

  • On Monday, Nov. 2, Russian forces struck a former school building in Komyshuvakha, Zaporizhzhia, where residents had gathered for humanitarian aid. Local authorities reported on Friday, Nov. 6, that the death toll has risen to 53.
  • The Russians dropped about ten aerial bombs on the settlement, targeting a former school shelter where civilians, police officers, and State Emergency Service rescuers had taken cover. The building was no longer used as a school.
  • Search operations continue five days after the attack, hampered by Russian drone threats, shelling, and thick smoke inside the damaged building. At least four police officers and two DSNS rescuers are among the dead.
  • During the Ibero-American Summit, President Volodymyr Zelensky called for "stronger international support for Ukraine's air defenses." Latvia, holding the UN Security Council presidency, requested an extraordinary meeting before all 15 members.
  • The Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration will cover funeral expenses and collect DNA samples from relatives to identify the deceased. Families with moderate injuries receive about $440, while those severely injured receive up to about $1,100.
