Montreal Man Charged for Alleged Death Threats Against PM Mark Carney
RCMP say the 51-year-old suspect sent threatening remarks in an email to a senator and others before being charged under the Criminal Code.
- On Monday, the RCMP's Federal Policing Eastern Region announced that a 51-year-old Montreal man, Marc Porlier, was charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
- The investigation launched Aug. 5 by the RCMP's Integrated National Security Enforcement Team after threats were allegedly sent via email to a senator, "among other individuals," the RCMP said.
- Separately, North Bay City Council candidate Glen Langlois reported receiving death threats via Facebook Messenger Saturday night, prompting police to confirm an arrest in that investigation.
- Police tell BayToday that 44-year-old Adam Beaulieu has been charged with one count of uttering threats to cause death and was released on conditions, including no contact with Langlois.
- Langlois stated he will continue cooperating with police, asserting, "I will not allow fear or intimidation to decide who is permitted to participate in North Bay's democracy.
