Davis Cup: Zverev puts Germany ahead; South Korea makes Asian history
Zverev won in straight sets and struck 15 aces as Germany moved within one victory of the Davis Cup Final 8.
On Saturday, Alexander Zverev gave Germany a 1-0 lead over Croatia in the Davis Cup Final qualifying round, defeating Matej Dodig 6-4, 7-6 in Halle.
The match marked Zverev's first appearance since his victory over American Ben Shelton in the U.S. Open final last weekend, following his maiden Grand Slam title at the French Open in June.
On the indoor hard court, Zverev dominated with 15 aces while his opponent Dodig earned no break-point opportunities throughout the contest.
Elsewhere, Austria secured a 3-1 victory over Belgium in Vienna, while South Korea became the first Asian nation to advance to the Davis Cup Final after defeating India 3-1.
Daniel Altmaier faces Dino Prizmic in Saturday's second singles match, with Sunday's doubles and reverse singles determining which team advances to the Davis Cup Final in Bologna, Italy.
