Shohei Ohtani Comes Out of His Bullpen Session without Issues and Will Throw Another
The Dodgers said Ohtani’s response will determine whether he needs more bullpen work before he can rejoin the rotation.
On Friday, Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani threw 34 pitches off a mound, marking his first bullpen session in over three weeks as he works toward returning to the rotation.
Ohtani has not pitched for the Dodgers since July 3 due to persistent inflammation and soreness in his left knee, requiring a careful recovery process including plyometrics and long toss.
Manager Dave Roberts and General Manager Brandon Gomes expressed optimism after the session, noting Ohtani must complete further bullpen work and live batting practice before returning to MLB action.
Because the Dodgers intend to keep Ohtani in the lineup, he will build up arm strength during regular season games rather than completing a minor-league rehab assignment.
Recent acquisitions of Tarik Skubal and the return of Blake Snell have bolstered the rotation, allowing the team to prioritize Ohtani's health for a potential postseason role.
