H&M Investigating Cyber Attack Claims, Reports Say
- On Monday, the Swedish fashion giant H&M announced it is investigating claims of a potential cybersecurity incident involving the hacking group Shinyhunters. An H&M Group spokeswoman told The Times the company is assessing the validity of these claims.
- Shinyhunters previously claimed responsibility for a major cyber attack on Jaguar Land Rover last summer and reportedly demanded around £400,000 in ransom from Ticketmaster in 2024 to prevent data being sold.
- As of Monday lunchtime, the Information Commissioner's Office , the UK's independent data watchdog, had not received a report on the incident. Organizations must report breaches within 72 hours unless they pose no risk to individuals.
- Fast fashion business Asos last week reported an "unauthorised party" accessed personal data, with customers notified last Tuesday. The retailer, serving 16.5 million customers, stressed no payment card information or account passwords were accessed.
- H&M reported last month that net sales reached 57.2 billion Swedish krona, or £4.4 billion, between June and September, marking a 1% increase year-over-year. This recovery followed a 3% sales decline earlier in the financial year.
