Construction of data centres overtakes offices for the first time in the US
Spending on data centre projects in the US has exploded, surpassing offices for the first time at the end of last year. It's a trend Matt Kunz saw early when Meta built a computing hub outside Columbus, Ohio.
According to a new analysis by Wood Mackenzie, during the fourth quarter of 2025 25 gigawatts (GW) of new data center capacity were added, half as much as in the third quarter, indicating a challenging development environment and a focus on existing projects.
