Japanese supermarket chain Daiei Inc. said Friday it will change its brand name of all its stores in the greater Tokyo area to "Food Style" by 2030 under a strategy shift of its parent company to deal with intensifying competition, effectively taking down the household name used for over 70 years.
Daiei and MaxValu Kanto, both part of the Aeon Group, announced on the 27th that they will gradually change their store names from "Daiei" to "Food Style." In the Tokyo metropolitan area, all stores will change over by 2030, and the Daiei name will disappear. In the Kinki region, they also aim to change over most stores by the same year.
