Cyclone Murasu makes landfall on India's eastern coast
The storm is expected to dump very heavy rain and disrupt power and transport as officials pre-position rescue teams and evacuation plans.
Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu was expected to cross the South Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Narsapur, near Ongole, around midnight Monday or early Tuesday, with winds of 100–110 kmph and gusts up to 120 kmph.
Andhra Pradesh deployed disaster-response teams, ordered evacuations from unsafe areas, and placed ports on high alert as the storm approached.
Chennai canceled at least 11 flights, while schools in Chennai and Tiruvallur closed because of heavy rain and weather warnings.
Odisha evacuated residents from vulnerable areas and warned of further rain, flooding, and landslides while communities continued recovering from Cyclone Arnab.
