Cycling for a cause: Cops for Cancer coming to White Rock
The six-day fundraiser will send police and emergency services riders 600 kilometres through the Fraser Valley to support childhood cancer research and Camp Good Times.
- White Rock RCMP Const. Carly Godlien is cycling in the Cops for Cancer Tour de Valley, a 600-kilometre, six-day fundraising ride through the Fraser Valley from Sept. 14 to 19.
- Godlien's inspiration for this year's ride is Caitlyn Sears, daughter of her colleague Const. Chantal Sears, who was diagnosed with leukemia last September.
- Participants must raise $6,000 each, and Godlien has already raised nearly $20,000 with support from local businesses including 3 Dogs Brewing, which hosted a pub night fundraiser that brought in $7,000.
- The tour will stop at Peace Arch Elementary on Tuesday, Sept. 15, where Caitlyn attended school before starting at Earl Marriott Secondary this year.
- Proceeds from the ride support childhood cancer research and the Canadian Cancer Society, including Camp Good Times, which helps children focus on activities beyond their treatment.
