'Cybersecurity Issue' Prompts Computer Shutdowns at MGM Resorts Across US

  • Caesars Entertainment, the largest casino owner in the world, has reported a cyberattack that compromised the personal information of tens of millions of customers. The company acknowledged that it cannot guarantee the security of the stolen data, including driver's license and Social Security numbers.
  • The attack was attributed to a hacking group known as Scattered Spider or UNC3944, who have targeted at least 100 organizations in the U.S. And Canada. Caesars is the second major casino company in recent weeks to be hit by a cyberattack, following MGM Resorts International.
  • While it is unclear if a ransom was paid, Caesars has taken steps to delete the stolen data. However, reports suggest that the company paid half of the $30 million demanded by the hackers to prevent the data from being disclosed.
