Cyberabad police cite assessment, legal provisions to clarify why AP MP’s son was not arrested in fatal Aston Martin crash
- On Friday, Cyberabad Police clarified why Lingameneni Sanjush, 21-year-old son of Andhra Pradesh Rajya Sabha member Lingameneni Ramesh, was not arrested after the August 16 fatal Aston Martin crash near Inorbit Mall that killed a 26-year-old sales associate.
- Bharati Mukhi, a 26-year-old sales associate at Lifestyle in Inorbit Mall, died after being struck by the luxury vehicle while crossing the road on August 16. Police identified Sanjush as the driver; Bharati had collected lunch with colleague Pooja Ashok around 3 p.m.
- Kukatpally Deputy Commissioner of Police Ritiraj stated Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was invoked, carrying a maximum five-year punishment. Because the alleged offence carries less than seven years imprisonment, police assessed arrest necessity under Supreme Court guidelines.
- Preliminary tests for alcohol and drugs on Sanjush returned negative results, with blood samples sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory. The Aston Martin was seized and inspected by a Motor Vehicle Inspector on Friday, then deposited before a city court.
- Police denied allegations of extraneous influence in the non-arrest decision. The investigation continues pending Motor Vehicle Inspector report and forensic results, with police stating further action including arrest would be taken if warranted by evidence collected.
