Thailand's Prime Minister Faces Ethical Probe
THAILAND, JUL 13 – Cyber Crime Police forwarded the case of a leaked 17-minute call implicating ethical and national security concerns to prosecutors, who may seek Interpol arrest warrants, officials said.
- On July 1, Thailand's Constitutional Court suspended Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra from her duties in Bangkok following a petition by 36 senators over a leaked call with Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen.
- The suspension followed accusations that Paetongtarn endangered national security during a 17-minute call, while several senators face allegations linked to an ongoing investigation into manipulated Senate voting.
- Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Prommin Lertsuridej, present during the call, stated Hun Sen is not an official Cambodian government representative and accused Hun Sen of leaking the conversation to provoke controversy.
- The Cyber Crime Investigation Division submitted a 50-page file on Monday to the Attorney-General, who will decide whether to proceed with prosecution, potentially seeking Interpol warrants if defendants evade summons.
- The controversy deepens political tensions as Paetongtarn prepares a written defense possibly needing an extension, while her coalition faces instability amid protests and party withdrawals.
