CVS Says a System Outage that Prevented some of Its Pharmacies From Filling Prescriptions Is Over
The network issue delayed prescription fills at some CVS pharmacies nationwide, affecting medicine delivery to customers, the company said Tuesday.
CVS said it is experiencing a known system outage that is preventing some pharmacies from filling prescriptions, with effects lasting most of Tuesday.
A CVS spokesperson said Tuesday that a network connection issue caused the disruption, and most pharmacies can still fill prescriptions, though some may face delays, with the outage following an AWS problem, though links are unclear.
Many customers reported on social media that they could not pick up prescriptions or were turned away, and CVS’s more than 9,000 locations widened the potential impact.
Some platforms said services were restored shortly after 2 p.m. Eastern even as officials had not declared an all-clear, while service operators said the issue was still ongoing.
Experts warn the outage highlights cloud dependence and advise local backups, noting similar outages recur every few years and recommending individuals keep critical documents and local backups.
