The Institute of Meteorology (Insmet) of Cuba warns that this year the presence of the climate phenomenon El Niño could cause effects such as high temperatures, drought and the risk that some cyclone will affect the island.
El Niño can have strong effects on rainfall, water availability and the frequency of periods of intense heat, in addition to influencing the cyclone season in Cuba.
The Institute of Meteorology (Insmet) of Cuba warns that this year the presence of El Niño could cause effects such as high temperatures, drought and the risk that some cyclone will directly affect the island. Known as El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENOS), the phenomenon is an interaction between ocean and atmosphere that occurs when the surface temperatures of the eastern and central equatorial Pacific increase above their usual values.
