Canarias is the third autonomous community in Spain with the largest number of Auxiliary Nursing Care Technicians (AACs), only behind Catalonia and Andalusia. However, the report on the Status of Technical Staff in Auxiliary Nursing Care (AACS) in Spain, from the Ministry of Health, reveals a particularly significant fact: the number of interim professionals far exceeds that of permanent staff.
The Galician Government is moving forward with the development of the comprehensive plan for the reform of primary care and has put into effect a number of new developments. Among them, on the same day in which the Sectoral Table meets, the President of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda, has reported that podiatrists will be incorporated into health centres in order to "reduce the hospital income" produced by foot diseases, which "are numerous".
The Galician Government is moving forward with the development of the comprehensive plan for the reform of primary care and has put into practice a number of new developments, including the gradual expansion of nursing places at the first level of care to reach the ratio of one for each family doctor by 2030.
The incorporation of podiatrists into health centers, that there is a nursing place for each family doctor or midwife for every 6,000 women. That is what, in the words of the president of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda, establishes the proposal of human resources planning for Primary Care sent this same Monday to the unions.
The Independent and Civil Servants' Trade Union Center (CSIF) has called for urgent measures to strengthen staff, improve working conditions and properly recognize the competencies of Nursing Assistant Care Techniques (ACS), following the presentation of the report 'Situation of Technical Personnel in Nursing Assistant Care in Spain. 2025', prepared by the Ministry of Health.
