Crypto.com founder Kris Marszalek buys ai.com domain name for record $70 million: FT
Marszalek paid $70 million in cryptocurrency for ai.com, doubling the prior domain record, to advance his AI platform amid $1.5 trillion global AI sector growth in 2025, Gartner said.
On Friday the FT reported that Kris Marszalek, founder and CEO of Crypto.com, paid $70 million to buy ai.com, a deal finalized in April 2025.
The acquisition signals a move into AI, a sector that reached nearly $1.5 trillion in worldwide spending in 2025, with Bloomberg reporting that Alphabet, Amazon, Meta and Microsoft plan to invest a combined $650 billion this year.
The platform debuted with a Super Bowl LX commercial on Sunday, generating a surge that crashed the Ai.com website for several hours, and Marszalek said it aims to be the 'front door to AGI'.
The sale more than doubled the prior $30 million domain record, and the transaction was conducted entirely in cryptocurrency, the FT said Friday, citing Larry Fischer of GetYourDomain.com.
Marszalek earlier paid $12 million for crypto.com in 2018, and Ai.com announced the debut of a consumer platform featuring autonomous agents handling tasks like trading and scheduling.
