Nigeria: Cross River APC Impeaches Its Chairman, Swears in Replacement

- On Thursday, the State Working Committee in Cross River impeached Barr. Alphonsus Ogar Eba at the APC state secretariat in Calabar after a unanimous decision following thorough investigation.
- Barr. Alphonsus Ogar Eba faced accusations of embezzlement and hosted a grand reception last month pledging allegiance to former governor Ben Ayade after assuming the chair in October 2021.
- Moving the motion, State Welfare Secretary Okara Ekawu and State Treasurer Dr. Matthew Egom secured a unanimous decision formalized by a communiqu� signed by SWC members, chapter chairmen and stakeholders.
- Following Forum complaints, Kelvin Nyong said the non-payment of stipends was unprecedented and that withholding them for over three months hurt ward and chapter officials, while leaders reaffirmed loyalty to Governor Bassey Otu.
- Eba was ordered to transfer all party assets and the APC state secretariat, Calabar, to the acting chairman until further National Executive Committee instructions.
