Cristiano Ronaldo Retires From Portugal After 23-Year International Career
On Nov 5, Cristiano Ronaldo retired from international football for Portugal, officially ending his 23-year career with the national team.
Throughout his career, Ronaldo played 234 games for Portugal, scoring 146 goals and winning the 2016 European Championship and UEFA Nations League titles in 2018/19 and 2024/25.
The retirement follows an 'explosive falling-out' with new manager Jorge Jesus, which ended with Ronaldo abandoning the camp during the most recent international break in September and October.
"A journey comes to an end that began in 2003 and changed my life forever," Ronaldo said, reflecting on immigrants who felt Portugal closer during his 90-minute performances.
Ronaldo hopes to pass the baton to his son, 16-year-old Cristiano Junior, who has been called up for Portugal's Under-17s this week.
