Saudi League Postpones Three Matches After Houthi Attacks
The league said the changes account for player rest and operational needs, while two matches moved to Dec. 19 and one to March 6, 2027.
On Tuesday, the Saudi Pro League postponed three Roshn Saudi League Matchweek 9 fixtures, citing "logistical considerations, taking into account the mandatory minimum rest period between matches" in an official statement.
These scheduling changes follow intensified fighting between the kingdom and Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels, with recent missile strikes on Riyadh's international airport leaving 13 people dead.
Al Riyadh versus Al Hilal and Al Ittihad against Al Shabab move to December 19, 2026, while the Al Ahli versus Cristiano Ronaldo's Al Nassr clash is rescheduled for March 6, 2027.
The SPL stated the rescheduling was due to "logistical considerations" rather than security concerns, adding that other matchweek nine fixtures "will be played according to the previously announced schedule with no changes."
Postponements specifically affect clubs involved in Asian Champions League action, including Al Hilal, Al Nassr, Al Ahli, and Al Ittihad competing across continental and domestic competitions simultaneously.
Saudi Arabia's football league has postponed three matches from the ninth stage, scheduled this week, "for logistical reasons, on the basis of the intensified attacks by the Houthi rebels in Yemen against Saudi Arabia," AFP reports.
The Saudi League postponed three meetings of the ninth day, including Al-Ahli-Al-Nassr of Cristiano Ronaldo, as the attacks of the Huthist rebels against the kingdom intensified.
