Duke Energy Restores More than 171,000 Outages Across Greater Cincinnati, Repairs Continue as Company Works to Determine Restoration Times
Crews have restored service to 60,000 homes as broken poles, fallen trees and damaged equipment slow repairs, Duke Energy said.
On Tuesday, severe storms pummeled the region, knocking out power for more than 180,000 Duke Energy customers along a 70-mile stretch through Cincinnati and surrounding communities.
Duke Energy Storm Director Andy Cassidy said damage was 'more significant than anticipated,' with crews battling fallen trees, broken poles, and damaged equipment during ongoing severe weather.
About 94,000 homes and businesses remained without electricity as of 4 p.m. Wednesday, prompting Duke Energy to deploy about 1,000 additional line workers from Indiana and North Carolina.
Officials urge residents to stay away from downed power lines, which must be considered energized and dangerous. The Red Cross will open an emergency shelter at the Hartwell Recreation Center at 8275 Vine Street at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Residents are supporting neighbors by sharing resources like gas stoves and coffee; 'This is the time to help your neighbor out,' as many households prepare for extended outages.
