Police Ethics Commissioner Investigating Montreal Racism Allegations
Quebec's police ethics commissioner has opened a file to review a complaint regarding allegations of racism and discrimination within the Montreal police department as reported to the Red Coalition advocacy group.
The Red Coalition requested the investigation after the Montreal police dismantled a night patrol unit in the multicultural neighbourhood of Montréal-Nord.
Police Chief Fady Dagher stated that 14 officers from Station 39 were reassigned and two others suspended while prosecutors consider criminal charges.
The Red Coalition accused officers in Station 39 of racial profiling, harassment of residents, and retaliation against employees who reported these abuses.
