Court documents reveal moments leading up to KSP trooper’s death
The grand jury charged Emonnie Branch with murder of a first responder, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and tampering with evidence.
On Thursday, a Warren County grand jury indicted Emonnie Branch for the murder of Kentucky State Police Trooper Hayden Phillips, also charging him with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and tampering with physical evidence.
Phillips stopped a bluish-gray Honda Civic with expired temporary tags on Interstate 65 North near mile marker 38 on Monday, September 28, before being shot twice during the interaction.
Authorities apprehended Branch in Louisville later that day; he remains in custody without bond at the Warren County Regional Jail pending trial.
Phillips' funeral is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 4, at noon at E.A. Diddle Arena on Western Kentucky University's campus, with interment following at Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.
Hundreds gathered Thursday night at Kentucky State Police Post 15 in Columbia for a candlelight vigil, honoring the values of faith and service that Phillips demonstrated throughout his life.
