Snowfall, Fog Force Cancellation of Men's World Cup Super-G. Odermatt Closes in on Discipline Title
Saturday's super-G race was canceled due to heavy snow and fog, with organizers focusing on Sunday's event; Marco Odermatt leads the discipline by 158 points, FIS said.
- On Saturday, bad weather forced organizers to cancel the first of two men's World Cup super-G races, with the International Ski and Snowboard Federation citing heavy snowfall, fog, and forecasts for continued snow.
- The canceled race was a replacement for a super-G called off in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany two weeks ago, and organizers said it will not be rescheduled again.
- Marco Odermatt could have clinched the super-G season title on Saturday after securing both the overall and downhill globes, holding a commanding 158-point lead over Austria's Vincent Kriechmayr with two races remaining.
- Four other racers, including Olympic champion Franjo von Allmen, retain mathematical chances but would need to overcome deficits exceeding 180 points; a race win awards 100 points.
- With the season ending at the World Cup Finals in Norway next week, the two remaining super-G races carry heightened significance for determining the discipline title.
