Four arrested in Eastbourne and Brighton in right-wing terror investigation

Four suspects were arrested in an intelligence-led operation targeting extreme right-wing terrorism to protect local communities, police said.

  • On December 4, Counter Terrorism Policing South East arrested four people in the Eastbourne and Brighton areas following armed police raids, officers said.
  • Sussex Police Assistant Chief Constable Steve Rayland said investigations `can cause people in the local community to feel concerned` and that the arrests `form part of a planned operation to keep people in our communities safe` as part of an intelligence-led probe into extreme right-wing terrorism.
  • Those detained include a 27-year-old woman from Hailsham and three men aged 33, 36 and 41 from Eastbourne, all arrested under section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000 and held in police custody.
  • Search activity at residential properties is currently ongoing following the arrests, and local residents may notice an increased police presence, police ask anyone with concerns to speak to officers.
  • Counter Terrorism Policing South East said it is leading the investigation with support from Sussex Police, and this is a developing story with more details to be published shortly.
