Councils in the disaster front line
Local councils are urged to enhance disaster response roles, calling for a fourth 'R' for 'Resilience', according to the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute.
Dr. Lisa de Kleyn stated that collaborative efforts among several councils helped alleviate pressures from resources, community needs, and frequent disasters.
Professor Sanderson emphasized the need for governments to invest in local authorities for better disaster management.
Key policies suggested include establishing buyback schemes to remove houses in high-risk areas, according to the study findings.
