Corey Seager Still on IL and Not Doing Actual Baseball Activities for Texas While Jung Out Again
Josh Jung remained out after an MRI showed no significant issues, while Wyatt Langford and Josh Smith also continued to progress in recovery.
Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager remained sidelined Monday despite becoming eligible to return from the injured list due to lower back inflammation, with Manager Skip Schumaker saying he was still probably a few days away from batting practice.
Seager's back spasms emerged May 15 after an extended rest following his last game May 13 against Arizona, interrupting a stretch where he played 24 games in 27 days before entering a career-worst 0-for-27 slump.
In the fifth season of his $325 million, 10-year deal, Seager has 28 hits, 22 walks and 50 strikeouts in 182 plate appearances, hitting.179—a mark ranking 165th out of 170 qualified MLB hitters.
Seager could resume live batting practice by Friday if progress continues, with rehab games potentially beginning next weekend, while third baseman Josh Jung sat for a second consecutive game after his diving defensive play Saturday bruised his left shoulder.
Jung's current shoulder concern echoes a labrum tear from February 2022, with Manager Schumaker noting the shoulder hasn't recovered as fast as hoped, as second baseman Josh Smith could return to the ballpark within days after hospitalization for viral meningitis.
