Florida Woman Charged with Murder After Burying Dead Baby. What Happened
Investigators say Anne Demegillo watched the infant drown, then buried the body after attending class and a campus play.
- On Monday, a grand jury indicted Anne Mae Demegillo on charges of first-degree premeditated murder, aggravated child abuse, and failing to report a death; she remains in custody without bond.
- Authorities allege that on March 5, Demegillo gave birth at her Palm Coast home, watched her newborn drown in the toilet, and buried the baby in a shallow grave on Florida Park Drive.
- Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly stated digital evidence proves premeditation, noting Demegillo searched for 'newborn premature babies' and 'foods to decrease fertility'; detectives also found images of Casey Anthony on her phone.
- Defense attorney Michael Politis told WESH-TV he will argue to have Demegillo's previous bond reinstated, with an arraignment hearing scheduled for Tuesday, April 21.
- Florida's 'Safe Haven' law allows parents to anonymously surrender infants 30 days old or younger at designated locations, and Floridians can access 11 'Safe Haven Baby Boxes' across the state.
