Connor Hellebuyck set for his New Jersey Devils debut as starter in net at Dallas
The three-time Vezina Trophy winner brings 345 career wins to the team following his suspension by Winnipeg, according to league records.
On Tuesday night, goaltender Connor Hellebuyck will make his debut for the New Jersey Devils against the Dallas Stars. Devils coach Sheldon Keefe confirmed the start after the team's morning skate.
The Devils acquired Hellebuyck on Friday following his suspension by the Winnipeg Jets for failing to report to training camp. The move ends his 11-season tenure with the franchise, which included a Presidents' Trophy-winning season in 2024-25.
With five seasons remaining on his seven-year contract, Hellebuyck carries an annual salary cap hit of $8.5 million. While skating in Michigan awaiting the trade, he said Saturday, "I'm just really excited to play hockey again."
Among goalies born in the United States with 300 or more career starts, Hellebuyck ranks fifth with 345 career wins. His.916 save percentage and 2.58 goals-against average rank fourth and sixth respectively among that group.
A three-time Vezina Trophy winner, Hellebuyck helped the United States win gold at the Milan Cortina Olympics this year. He enters the New Jersey lineup as a decorated veteran following his tenure with Winnipeg.
