Berlin Presents Bid to Rehost Olympics with 100th Anniversary of 1936 Games Looming

Officials in the German capital Berlin unveiled a plan on Tuesday to host the Summer Olympics in the future.

Berlin starts the Olympic race: the capital wants to bring the Olympic Games to Germany with four other federal states. But there is scepticism among the population. "It needs the right faces to convince the people," says Ludwig Degmayr, sports editor at WORLD TV.

The German city had already hosted the Games in 1936, under the Nazi regime.

The city of Berlin officially submitted its bid for the 2036 Summer Olympics on Tuesday, at the same place where American sprinter Jesse Owens snubbed the Nazi regime during the 1936 Games.

In addition to Berlin, Munich, Hamburg and the Rhine-Ruhr region are also applying for the Olympic Games. The makers in the capital are now presenting their concept and intend to use existing facilities and historical places for themselves.
