Columbia Basin Trust kicks in funding for Kootenay KidSport
The grant will help families cover registration fees as KidSport Trail, Nelson and Cranbrook prepare for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons.
- Columbia Basin Trust is donating $250,000 to KidSport to help children and youth across the Columbia Basin access organized sport and reduce financial barriers for families.
- Funds will support KidSport chapters in Greater Trail, Nelson, and Cranbrook for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons, reducing registration fees to encourage youth participation.
- Last year, KidSport Trail helped 50 youth participate in 13 different sports with grants averaging almost $300, totaling $14,674, while supporting 591 kids across the Columbia Basin region.
- Angela Crowther, Director of KidSport BC, stated the commitment will "help more kids across the Basin get off the sidelines and into the game," regardless of family financial circumstances.
- Families seeking financial assistance can visit KidSport Canada and click "Apply" to find local chapters, strengthening community well-being according to Katie Kendall, Senior Manager, Columbia Basin Trust.
