Senate Candidates Discuss Healthcare, Immigration
The race pits John Hickenlooper’s experience against Julie Gonzales’s call for generational change, with Democrats holding more than 1 million registered voters.
On June 30, incumbent U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper faces state Senator Julie Gonzales in Colorado's Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate, with ballots mailed to voters starting Monday, June 8.
Progressive challenger Gonzales criticizes Hickenlooper for supporting "go-along-to-get-along politics," specifically opposing his votes for 10 of President Donald Trump's cabinet nominees in 2025.
Hickenlooper holds a massive fundraising advantage with more than $5.7 million in contributions over the last year, compared to Gonzales's more than $443,000 according to Federal Election Commission filings.
The winner of the Democratic primary will face Republican candidate state Senator Mark Baisley in the November general election in a state that has trended Democratic over the past decade.
If Gonzales wins in November, she would become the first woman in state history to serve in the U.S. Senate; Hickenlooper has stated this reelection bid is his final campaign.
