Collingwood captain announces departure with two games left
Ruby Schleicher cited a desire to return home after 82 games and two seasons as captain, with West Coast expected to offer a four-year deal.
On Tuesday, Collingwood AFLW captain Ruby Schleicher announced she will leave the club to return to Western Australia at season's end, departing after 82 games and a disastrous 1-9 campaign.
Tom Morris reported last week that players and staff expressed frustration with Collingwood's list management, development coaching, and medical treatment, describing the program as "dysfunctional."
Schleicher turned down a one-year contract extension that reportedly "offended" those close to her, having kicked 10 goals this season before fracturing her shoulder against the Saints.
The East Fremantle product is expected to sign a four-year deal with West Coast, while Collingwood CEO Craig Kelly said the club respects her decision to return home.
Several senior players, including Bri Davey and Tarni White, face uncertain futures with contracts expiring at the end of 2026, as the crisis could see up to 10 uncontracted players depart.
