Coco Gauff Advances to the Third Round at the WTA’s China Open
Gauff overcame shaky serving and saved two match points before setting up a third-round meeting with either Cristina Bucsa or Sun Xinran.
- On Saturday, American Coco Gauff defeated Colombia's Camila Osorio 7-6 , 4-6, 6-2 at the China Open in Beijing, advancing past the second round.
- Returning from a three-week break following her Flushing Meadows loss to Elena Rybakina, Gauff struggled during the two-hour-and-18-minute match. "It was tough, it wasn't the cleanest," the 22-year-old said after her victory.
- Osorio, ranked 66th, saved two match points but fell to the world number four after fighting through back trouble. Gauff now faces the winner of Spain's Cristina Bucsa versus Chinese teenager Sun Xinran.
- In the men's ATP 500 tournament, top-seeded Alexander Zverev defeated wild-card Shang Juncheng 6-0, 6-3, setting up a quarterfinal against Novak Djokovic. Third-seeded Daniil Medvedev also advanced.
- Elsewhere, Alex de Minaur beat Quentin Halys 3-6, 7-6 , 7-5 in the second round. The WTA 1000 level tournament continues through October 11 in Beijing.
