Coast Guard Detains MSC Poesia at PortMiami During Expanded Inspection, Authorities Say
The cruise line canceled the sailing after it could not resolve a regulatory matter, and impacted guests will receive full refunds and travel assistance.
On Tuesday, November 3, MSC Cruises cancelled the MSC Poesia's 11-night Caribbean voyage after the U.S. Coast Guard detained the vessel at PortMiami for an inspection.
The cruise line cited an unresolved 'regulatory matter' that prevented departure on Sunday, November 1, while Coast Guard officials stated teams are 'verifying the cruise ship's compliance with international standards and U.S. regulations.'
Onboard the Musica-class ship holding 3,223 guests and 1,039 crew members, passengers remained docked in South Florida throughout the inspection while MSC provided free WiFi to help with travel arrangements.
Passengers will receive full refunds of cruise fares plus future cruise credits and additional compensation, with the ship's captain apologizing for the 'difficult decision' to cancel the holiday.
Guests may remain onboard until Thursday, November 5, while MSC manages debarkation logistics, with the ship's next scheduled departure a 10-night Eastern Caribbean itinerary planned for November 12.
