Detroit Mercy Gives Coach Mark Montgomery an Extension Through 2031
Montgomery led Detroit Mercy to 17 wins last season and its first Horizon League title game since 2012 before receiving a long-term extension.
On Wednesday, Detroit Mercy announced a contract extension for head coach Mark Montgomery, securing his leadership through the 2030-31 season following his April 2024 hiring.
Under Montgomery's leadership, the Titans improved to 17-15 wins last season—the program's highest total since 2012-13—after finishing 8-24 in his inaugural year.
The Titans reached their first Horizon League title game since 2012, while Orlando Lovejoy, TJ Nadeau, and Tyler Spratt earned conference honors under Montgomery.
Despite recent progress, the team faces a postseason ban next year for failing to meet an NCAA academic benchmark, though Montgomery will welcome back six players.
Montgomery expressed he is "committed to building a championship program, culture and identity," while athletic director Robert C. Vowels affirmed the school believes in his vision.
