The maximum fine of five million euros for the overcrowded registration center in Ter Apel is fast approaching. The center has been structurally accommodating more than two thousand asylum seekers for weeks. This means the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) has once again exceeded the limit set by the court.
The COA's penalty has risen to over €4 million. The reception organization is paying this fine because its registration center in Ter Apel, Groningen, has been consistently overcrowded since the end of January.
