CMHC reports annual pace of housing starts edged lower in August
CMHC said modest gains in Quebec and Alberta were not enough to offset declines in other provinces, including Ontario, as the national pace slipped 0.1%.

- In centres with populations of 10,000 or more, actual monthly housing starts reached 17,691 in August, down from 18,112 in August 2025, while rural starts totaled 11,224.
- The six-month moving average of the seasonally adjusted annual rate of total housing starts for all areas in Canada was 244,149, down 1.3 per cent from July.
