Coventry City Asked to Stump up as Premier League Clubs Hit Hardest by £20m Bill

The regulator says the levy will cover operating and legal costs, with Premier League clubs paying most of the bill.

  • The Independent Football Regulator projects that clubs across England’s top five divisions will pay £20.3 million in 2027–28, rising to £20.9 million the following year.
  • Premier League clubs are expected to cover about 85% of the annual cost, with the highest-earning teams paying up to £1.8 million and most contributing about £600,000.
  • Around £42 million of the regulator’s setup costs remains to be recovered over the next eight years, while future legal costs may also be charged to clubs.
